KOMPASSUS
DOC BAIRRADA
João Povoa has been producing wines in the DOC Bairrada since 1991 and started Kompassus in 2005 as a small boutique winery, focused on producing small batches of outstanding and unique wines. With vineyards over 70 years old, the winery practices sustainable viticulture in and organic production methods. Since 2012 the wines are made by one of the top winemakers in Portugal, Anselmo Mendes. Kompassus refers to the measurement between the row of vines which is 1.7 meters. This specific planting was first used by the Romans, and with such a small space between the rows, everything is done by hand.
